PhD scholarship for teachers
The Dutch Ministery of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) has created a PhD scholarship for teachers, starting in 2011. This scholarhip enables teachers with a recognized teaching degree to start PhD research at a university. This offers new opportunities for teachers to become an external PhD and do their PhD research in part time.
Research plan
Teachers who are interested in the PhD scholarhip, have to
- choose a domain and a research topic
- find a supuervisor
- write a research plan and send it to NWO
NWO, the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research, decides every year which 10 teachers receive the scholarship. The scholarship entails that for 4 years they will be enabled to do research for two days a week, without consequences for their pay. Their employer receives a compensation from the Ministery with which they can hire a replacement for the teacher.
More information and the necessary forms (in Dutch) you'll find at the website van NWO.
